The 2018 Torbay Primary Schools Football Finals Night which takes place at Plainmoor annually was a triumph for St Marychurch this year. The year 3/4 team played in a thrilling match, winning 4-2 to become Torbay Large Schools Champions which, for a not so large school is pretty good! They also retained the title of Torbay North League Champions which, under Mrs Thomson’s management, they have retained for four years. Goals came from Charlie Porter, Charlie Wise (2) and Reuben West but this was a whole team performance.
The pinnacle of Primary Schools Boys football is the much coveted Bewley Cup and this year St Marychurch faced Sherwell Valley in the final, having, of course, beaten many other schools in their Bewley journey. The team battled and played with great skill and determination to hold Sherwell to a 0-0 draw. This year the Bewley Cup will be shared.
This is a real honour for the school and the first time the school has won the cup for many years. Congratulations to all players, Matt Piller for coaching and to Mrs Thomson who leaves six years of football management at St Marychurch in style!
The teams were as follows:
Year 3/4 Team: Harry, Charlie, Dani, Raya, Charlie, Charlie, Finley, Reuben, Leela and Lily.
Year 5/6 Team: Oscar, Igoa, Ollie, Vinny, Keoni, Liam, Zac and Sam.
