Junior fundraising event raises over £400 in just 1 hour!!

As part of their topic work, children from classes 2TL, 2BC, 2CH and 2AG were given the task of planning and carrying out a fundraising event to raise money for charities of their choice!

The topic was called 'A Fair Share' and was based around the topic of Harvest. The children from each class began learning about the work of charities, both locally and nationally. Each class researched and produced posters/presentations about a selection of charities that they felt most passionate about. After a vote, each class chose a charity to raise money for; these charities were:

Woodlands Trust, Animals in Distress, McMillan Cancer Support and Rowcroft.

The children were then asked to think of fundraising ideas that they could run on a given afternoon.

After a lot of hard work by the staff and the children, the event was upon them! Parents were invited into the school hall, where the children had made stalls and banners to promote their fundraining ideas! The afternoon was a huge success! Raising over £400 in just 1 hour!!

This was a fantastic example of how the children here at St Marychurch were given ownership over their learning! The children responded brilliantly, they chose who they were raising the money for, how they were going to raise the money and also ran the stalls themselves!

Hopefully, the money raised will be presented in front of the whole school, with the charities able to accept the money in person!

Well done to all involved in this project! May there be many more to come!
